Minneapolis VA Health Care System
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System is seeking a full-time Physician-Radiation Oncologist to participate in our clinical, research, and teaching programs. We are affiliated with the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Minnesota and provide training for radiation oncology residents in this program. Successful candidates will be eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment with the University department. Entry level and experienced Physicians are encouraged to apply.
As part of VISN 23, the department is a regional VA Radiation Oncology Department and provides radiation therapy services for a five-state area in the Midwest. The department offers the following radiation treatment modalities: external beam radiotherapy including 3DCRT and IMRT, stereotactic body radiotherapy and prostate brachytherapy. The department is currently upgrading key equipment and technology with the plan to install two new Varian True Beam tri-energy linear accelerators with FFF mode to replace two existing VARIAN linacs in the next two years. The department is also updating our treatment planning system to RayStation in the coming fiscal year. Our radiation oncology department has earned full accreditation with the American College of Radiology’s Radiation Oncology Practice Accreditation program since 2006. The department participates in the VA co-operative group, and industry-sponsored clinical protocols.
Successful candidates for this position must have completed an accredited radiation oncology residency training program and be board certified or board eligible. Experience and expertise in SBRT and prostate brachytherapy is desirable but not essential.
ABOUT THE MINNEAPOLIS VAHCS
Minneapolis VAHCS is a major tertiary referral center for VISN 23. It is a teaching hospital providing a full range of patient care with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. The hospital provides comprehensive cancer care in-house with medical oncology, a full range of surgical subspecialties, diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine as well as physical medicine and rehabilitation, palliative and hospice care, dentistry, nutrition, speech pathology, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. The cancer program is accredited by the American Cancer of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The VA Hospital located in south Minneapolis, provides convenient access via the light-rail, to the downtown area of both Minneapolis and St. Paul, the Mall of America, and the (MSP) airport. The metropolitan area of the Twin Cities is consistently ranked one of the best places to live. Both cities offer unique and contrasting style, neighborhoods, and architecture along with multiple cultural, sports, and entertainment venues as well as excellent parks and recreational amenities.
Must have completed an accredited radiation oncology residency training program and be board certified or board eligible.
Education and length of practice will be considered through a formal pay-setting process in determining the final compensable salary.
